• WICH PLAYS C.E.R.N.?

A few days ago, there has been much talk about CERN ( Centre Européen de Recherche Nucleaire, in French) wich is a nuclear research institute and particle physics. The truth is that it is incalculable what has been spent on this Institute, created in the 50's. I could not find figures but possibly CERN costs more than ESA (European Space Agency).

On the one hand, they call "cathedral of science" to institute, on the other hand, "Higgs boson" (experiment´s main aim) the most elementary particle that exists (only deducted in equations) is called by the scientists "God´s particle". (Vacuum´s particle, also.).

As a European citizen I had ever heard of CERN as unique place in the world where it was investigating atom´s fusion (now we know fission) that if they got, would be an inexhaustible source of energy. Instead, all with a little background of seriousness, tell us that the thing is little more than an experiment in physical recreation and theoretical: to reproduce in the acceleration tunnel the same conditions that occurred in the "big bang" and to know if Higgs boson exists. Somebody has spoken also about "to discover" why the sun shines. (?) Nor has lacked the "medieval touch" as some scientists have warned that the experiment could generate a "black hole" that would absorb the entire planet. (Once again, in Europe, that the world is running out).

All in a city with 10,000 scientists, an accelerator circular tunnel that is 1 km. diameter (27 kms. circumference) and everything cooled to a temperature close to absolute 0. Giant electromagnets, and built more than one hundred meters deep, and so on. Ah, and Shiva´s statue being the dominant element of the main institute´s entrance.

Maybe some Swiss bank can use in the future, this huge underground vault like strongroom.

What remains of rationality, and particularly the scientific rationality and Europe?
